Although the overwhelming majority of people in Britain feel positive about living in diverse communities, there are still some new and complex challenges that require national and local action to ensure inclusion and tackle community tensions. The response to the review and recommendations by the Commission on Integration and Cohesion shows that the Government is commitment to promoting better community relations and cohesion. With greater central government support and the announcement by Communities Secretary Hazel Blears of a £50 million investment over three years, local authorities will be able to respond to their own challenges. This conference brought together delegates from government, local authorities, community groups, police and other key stakeholders.
