Maggie Rae

 Maggie  Rae
Maggie Rae has recently taken up post as Joint Director of Public Health for Wiltshire PCT and Wiltshire County Council. Previously she was Head of Health Inequalities and Head of Local Delivery at the Department of Health. She had responsibility for delivery of the national programme to reduce health inequalities, particularly focussing on improving life expectancy and reducing infant mortality in England. She worked on a performance framework linked to the delivery of health inequalities now it is in the Top NHS deliverables. Maggie also had key responsibility for the development of Local Government programme including Local Area Agreements. She is also experienced in community engagement and local government programmes and sees the work in this area making a major contribution to engaging with the most deprived communities.

She has also had responsibility for personal health programmes such as Health Trainers and Life Check.

Maggie is the UK representative to the European Expert Group on Social Determinants and Health Inequalities.

Until recently she was Programme Director for Public Health, Education and Training in the South West Region and remains committed to continuous professional development.

Maggie has spent her career working in the Public Sector in a variety of departments including Health, Local Government, Education and Social Services. She was Director of the nine English Regions for the Health Development Agency. This provided a good understanding of how regions function and she is committed to ensuring good engagement through regional and local delivery.

She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health. She is also a standing member of the Royal College of General Practice Health Inequalities Group.
