Professor Judith Ellis MBE

Professor Judith Ellis MBE
Professor Judith Ellis MBE is currently Interim Chair for the Nursing and Midwifery Council. She is also Executive Dean at London South Bank University, Faculty of Health and Social Care, a position she has held since February 2010.

Judith commenced her career in the NHS in 1978, training as a general nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital London and then moving on to train as a paediatric nurse in Manchester. She has held a number of senior posts in education and the NHS including most recently for 8 years as Director of Nursing and Workforce Development at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Prior to this she was a Nursing Officer at the Department of Health with lead responsibility for Quality and the ‘Getting the Basics Right’ agenda.

Judith was awarded the MBE in 1998 for services to Paediatric and Clinical Practice Benchmarking activity. Her doctoral studies were focused around quality improvement aiming for excellent patient focused care.
