Speaker Biography

David Ellis

David has been Head teacher of York High School, a Sports College, since September 2007. He was previously Headteacher of Oaklands School. David lead this school out of Ofsted category before it became part of the merger to create York High. The specialism has contributed to a rapid improvement in results 53 – 95% 5A*- C and 34 – 57% including English and Maths in three years.

York High serves a deprived community and the school has used London 2012 to raise aspirations and develop self esteem. This includes a strong link with Tanzania as well as students contributing to their local community.

David is joint Chair of the North Yorkshire School Games Organising Committee a pilot area in 2011. He has also been instrumental in creating a new model of local cooperation for the delivery of school sport following the demise of SSP’s.

York High was awarded YST Gold Partner status in 2011.
