Sheona Brown

Sheona Brown, Consultant Midwife, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Sheona has been a midwife for 20 years, she has wide and varied experience including working as a caseload holder, working in a midwives birthing unit and working as a community midwife. She participated in the Midwifery Development Unit research project as a clinical midwife and provided care to a caseload of low risk women. Since then she has broadened her horizons by working as a project midwife developing a model of public health midwifery for Glasgow. Sheona was the project lead and worked closely with the link midwife on the programme to prepare midwives to deliver culturally competent care to asylum seekers and refugees. This programme was externally evaluated and received a 5 star rating from the Home Office.

She is currently seconded to a Consultant Midwife role for Keeping Childbirth Natural and Dynamic (KCND.) This is a national programme to promote normality in pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Sheona is currently enjoying this role and embracing the challenges of delivering a national agenda locally. Alongside her Consultant Midwife colleague she was instrumental in ensuring the establishment of a home birth team model of care for women in Glasgow.
