Professor Kevin Browne is both a Chartered Biologist and Chartered Psychologist employed by the University of Nottingham as Chair of Forensic Psychology and Child Health and heads the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations. He has been researching family violence and child maltreatment for over 30 years and has published extensively on the prevention of violence to children. He spent 12 years as an Executive Councillor of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN Exec, 1998-2002) and since has acted as a consultant to the European Commission, UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO), specialising in child care and protection within the 51 UN member states of Europe and Central Asia. He has worked and presented in over 50 countries worldwide, having spent three years leading the High Level Group for Romanian Children in the Prime Minister’s Office in Bucharest.

Previous to this appointment, he led multi-sector training projects on mother and child health and the prevention of child maltreatment, both in Russia and Slovakia, supported by the British Government. This training programme received the Humanitarian Prize of the Slovak Republic in 2003. More recently, he set up the WHO Collaboration Centre on Child Care and Protection in the UK and co-ordinates an EU/WHO investigation on child abandonment and the effects of early institutional care on child development and behaviour. He is actively involved in training and capacity building to deinstitutionalise and transform children’s services across Europe. Nationally, he is concerned with professional training of applied psychologists and practices as an expert witness in child care proceedings of the family courts.
