Huw Evans
Huw Evans has been Principal of Coleg Llandrillo since 1989. Since that time the college has developed to become one of the largest in Wales, attracting almost 24,000 students to its various sites, with a turnover of £46million.
The college offers extensive provision on a full and part-time basis including an extensive higher education portfolio designed to provide the vocational higher education needs of the area. The college is very active in the 14-19 agenda and works in partnership with Conwy, Gwynedd and Denbighshire LEAs.
In 2005 the college achieved the accolade of being the first college in Wales to achieve straight grade 1's for all aspects of the Estyn quality framework, with over 70% of its operational programmes achieving grade 1 recognition.
Over the years the Principal has worked extensively on the development of educational initiatives across Wales and the UK, and has been Chair of 'fforwm' – now Colegau Cymru, a member of the UFI Board and a member of the FEFC(W).
Presently he is a member of the Minister’s Advisory Group (MAG) and until recently Chaired the 14-19 Extended Executive Committee. He continues an involvement in a number of strategic groups and most recently was a member of the Reference Group tasked with the Review of Higher Education in Wales. He is currently a member of the CBI and is involved as a Welsh Council member.
On 1st April 2010, the college merged with Coleg Meirion Dwyfor with sites based in Dolgellau, Pwllheli and Glynllifon. There is now in excess of 1400 staff across the three counties the college serves in Gwynedd, Conwy and Denbighshire.
In 2002 he was awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours list for “Services to Further Education”.
