Jeff Jerome
Jeff commenced as National Director for Social Care Transformation in October 2008, having been Director of Adult and Community Services at the London Borough of Richmond for the previous 7 years. The new role, working across Local Government to develop the Personalisation agenda for Social Care, is government funded and accountable to a consortium of IDeA, Local Government Association, ADASS and the Department of Health.
Jeff has worked in local government around the areas of social care, health and housing for over thirty-five years. Having started his working life in the NHS with stroke patients, he has subsequently worked for seven local authorities and the LGA.
In the late 1990’s Jeff’s acted as a primary carer to his sister, and for several years managed the (jointly funded) health and social care ‘direct payments’ that secured the community-based support she needed in the years before her death. This experience, above all, confirmed his view of the need to both ‘personalise’ and fundamentally change arrangements regarding the delivery of care and support services.
