Geoff Russell

Chief Executive, Skills Funding Agency

Geoff’s private sector career was with KPMG, starting in Toronto in 1982, and retiring as a partner in the UK firm in 2008. He worked in a variety of industry sectors and countries in the areas of audit, corporate finance and forensic investigation. He held a variety of roles, including Executive Partner Global Banking; EMA and then Global Head of Practice Development; Chair of KPMG’s Offshore Group, and was on the Board of KPMG Russia. In his career with KPMG, he worked in more than 70 countries.

Geoff accepted a secondment to HM Treasury in 2005 as Director of Financial Management and then decided to offer his private and public sector experience to government. In March 2009, he was asked to become the Acting Chief Executive of the Learning and Skills Council, the biggest quango in the UK. In December 2009, he was appointed Chief Executive of one of the LSC’s successor bodies, the Skills Funding Agency, with effect 1 April 2010.
