Dr Michael Jewess
Dr Michael Jewess is an Oxford-educated scientist. He is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a European Trade Mark Attorney.From 1988 to 2009, he headed successively the IP departments of Metal Box plc, CMB Packaging SA, British Telecommunications plc, and BAE Systems plc.
Previous experience included work in private practice and in the chemical industry. Since 2009, he has researched, lectured, and written on intellectual property. His large and wide-ranging book Inside intellectual property – best practice in intellectual property law, management, and strategy (CIPA, London, autumn 2013) was described by one reviewer as “a ‘must-have’ for all IP practitioners of whatever nationality and wherever they practise worldwide”.
From 2003 to 2005, he was President of the IP Federation (representing IP-intensive industry in the UK); he remains on the Federation’s Council as a Vice-President. He has worked on committees of CIPA and in the International Chamber of Commerce IP Commission.
