Ron Skelton

Ron is the Headteacher of Broadway School which is a large inner-city comprehensive for 11-19 year olds. The school has 1300 students, ninety five percent are Muslim and forty five percent receive free school meals; in addition they have a high percentage of students with special needs. Broadway School recently moved into a £21 million world class building under the Building Schools for the Future Programme. The move has brought two schools onto one site, and was opened by His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent in December 2011.

Broadway School has teaching school status and Ofsted recently awarded an overall 'outstanding' rating for ICT under the new framework. In the last four years Broadway has gone from being within the bottom five percent of schools to within the top three percent of UK schools in terms of CVA (value added).

Ron has worked with many other schools and has a sizeable record of working with under-performing schools. In addition, Ron has worked strategically with LLE's and NLE's and has spoken at conferences concerning community cohesion, sports development and school improvement; particularly closing the gap. Ron is passionate about working with children from the lowest socio-economic backgrounds and providing them with opportunities to succeed.

Ron trained as a physical education and religious education teacher before completing a second degree in Management of Education. He was recently selected to become a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
