Speaker Biography

Dr Shaun McMann

My main responsibility is to oversee the provision of degree-level modules for students in prison and other secure accommodation.

In addition to this, I am a Sociology, Psychology and Critical Media Theory Lecturer for the OU and for Nottingham Trent University. In terms of research, I have three main interests. Most of my previous work has looked into the links between privatism; narcissism and social reproduction.

I am also interested in the ways in which people positively respond to the uncertainties and inequalities of life within contemporary Britain. More specifically, my work in this area has looked at issues such as respect; reasonableness, loyalty and trust.

For the last three years, my work has focused on the relationship between education and the rehabilitation of life-sentence prisoners.
