Prof Goolam Mohamedbhai
Goolam Mohamedbhai is former President of the International Association of Universities and former Secretary General of the Association of African Universities.
He was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius from 1995 to 2005. He obtained his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in civil engineering at the University of Manchester, UK. He carried out postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley under a Fulbright-Hays Award.
He has undertaken consultancies and commissioned studies for a number of international organisations, including the International Development Research Centre, Canada, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the UN Centre for Human Settlements (UN Habitat), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Regional Office for Education in Africa, and the Association of African Universities.
He was Chairman of the Regional Scientific Committee for Africa of the UNESCO Forum on Higher Education, Research and Knowledge.
