Nick Lawrence
Nick Lawrence is a Deputy Director Department at the Department for Education. He is responsible for the delivery of the national campaign to help turn around the lives of families with multiple problems announced by the Prime Minister in December 2010. This includes the national roll out of Community Budgets for families with multiple problems and encouraging the redesign of local services so that the most trouble families are helped to overcome problems, re-engage with education and get work.
Before joining DfE Nick led the Department of Health's Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco programmes overseeing the expansion of drug treatment in England, the development of the Government's first alcohol strategy and a series of successful tobacco, alcohol and drugs communications campaigns. He was also responsible for the development of the NHS delivery plan for the Choosing Health White Paper. Before this, Nick led work on the young people's Drug Strategy target at the Home Office.
Nick Lawrence joined the Civil Service twelve years ago, having worked as a service manager and health policy adviser in local authority children’s services. His professional background is in Public Health and Health Promotion.
