Emma has worked for the Royal College of Midwives since January 2009 as National Officer for Scotland. Her role involves individual and collective representation of midwives across eight health boards in Scotland. In addition to this she is involved in representing the RCM in professional midwifery issues nationally.

She also supports and advises local RCM representatives and participates in Health Board Area Partnership Forums, national staffside groups and various other initiatives relating to partnership working in NHS Scotland and maternity services provision.

She commenced her midwifery training in 1995 in Lothian completing her BSc in Midwifery with Health Studies. She has worked in a variety of roles within hospital based clinical midwifery and as a community midwife, where she worked within a pilot scheme of integrated community and intrapartum midwifery care before focusing on midwife-led community midwifery.
She became an RCM Steward, a volunteer post, in 2007 and was actively involved in partnership working in the NHS, working two days per week in her staffside role before moving on to work for the RCM full-time.

She is passionate about representing midwives and the profession in order to support and promote the role of the midwife locally and nationally to achieve the best possible experience for both midwives and their families.
