Christine May

Head of Libraries, Archives and Information, Cambridgeshire County Council.

Christine joined Cambridgeshire County Council in 2006 after 17 years with Hertfordshire County Council. A librarian by profession, she has spent most of her career managing archives, local studies and heritage services. In 2009 she was appointed Acting Head of Libraries, Archives and Information in Cambridgeshire to lead an intense period of service change. Recently permanently appointed, she is leading the Service’s response to severe budget reductions, involving moving to a charitable Trust and completely redesigning the structure and public service – including a much greater emphasis on self service use of libraries and working with community volunteers. The service already has experience of community run libraries, with 10 Library Access Points that were established in 2002/3 following a period of library closures.
