Speaker Biography

Jane Hurry

Dr Jane Hurry is the Faculty Director for Postgraduate Research at the Institute of Education. She has a longstanding interest in literacy difficulties and in education, training and employment of young people in the criminal justice system. In the last decade she has directed seven projects in this area, looking at different aspects of provision for these young people, in community and custodial settings. Projects have involved both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, interviewing and observing the young people themselves, their teachers and managers, trailing interventions and interrogating national databases.

She is interested in both the theoretical and practical dimensions of provision and has published reflecting this breadth of interest. She has also researched behaviour disorders in children and adolescents, and its implications for their education.
