Dr Alan Drimmer

Dr Alan Drimmer has deep experience in proprietary and online education. Since early 2009, Drimmer has served as President of Western International University (WIU), an institution offering Bachelors and Masters degrees and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Part of Apollo Global and owned by Apollo Group, parent company of the University of Phoenix, WIU distinguishes itself with a focus on high-quality teaching deploying innovative technologies, with a globally-focused curriculum.

Previously, Drimmer was Chief Executive Officer of American InterContinental University, owned by Career Education Corporation (CEC), where he led all AIU campuses with approximately 25,000 students and $400 million in revenue. Under Drimmer’s leadership, the school underwent a complete transformation, including the establishment of the main campus at AIU Online.

Drimmer began his experience in online education at UNext/Cardean University, an online business school established in coordination with Stanford, Columbia, University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon, and the London School of Economics. Innovation in online education has been a consistent interest for Drimmer, including new frameworks for online pedagogy, faculty recruitment and training, and retention of students.

Prior to his career in education, Drimmer was a management consultant at the Chicago office of McKinsey and Company, and worked at the U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Drimmer earned his M.B.A from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his B.A., M.A., and Ph. D. from the University of Chicago. Drimmer also spent several years as a dissertation fellow at Harvard University’s John M. Olin Center for Strategic Studies and while there, received Harvard College’s Derek Bok Undergraduate Teaching Award.
