Steven Sharples

Senior Governance Adviser, Department for International Development (DFID)

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Thornton Baker, Stephen joined Coopers and Lybrand, working for the London, Dublin and Nairobi offices, in computer audit and then management consultancy. In 1992 he joined the Overseas Development Administration, now DFID, working on programmes in Africa, the Former Soviet Union and West Asia and, for three years from April 2001, as Senior Governance Adviser with DFID Nepal, based in Kathmandu. He moved to his current post, as Public Financial Management Team Leader in the Aid Effectiveness and Value for Money Department., in September 2009. DFID’s Public Financial Management Team engages in international initiatives to help improve coordination and effectiveness in supporting public financial management reforms in developing countries and works with DFID country offices on their programmes to support such reforms.
