Ron Dobson is London’s Fire Commissioner, heading the UK’s largest
fire and rescue service and the third largest in the world. He is responsible for some 7,200 staff, including nearly 6,000 operational firefighters based
at 113 fire stations serving the whole of the Greater London area including London’s 7.5 million residents as well as those who work in, or visit the city.

Ron joined the London Fire Brigade in 1979 and since then has risen through the Brigade’s ranks becoming an Assistant Commissioner in 2000. In 2002, he became the principal officer responsible for delivering the Brigade’s day-to-day operations and led a wide range of community safety work that has seen fires, fire deaths and fire injuries fall dramatically in London over the past few
years. Ron was appointed Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade in 2007.
Ron leads the Brigade’s preparations in responding to the terrorist threat. He is a member of many national committees and working groups and during the terrorist attacks on 7 July 2005 was the Brigade’s senior operational commander responsible for liaising with the other emergency services
and supporting agencies and ensuring the delivery of a coordinated and integrated response from the emergency services.

Ron was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in 2005 and awarded a CBE in the 2011 New Year Honours.
