Andy Sutch

Andy Sutch, Executive Director, Business in Sport and Leisure

Born in Yorkshire and educated at Queen Elizabeth GS Wakefield that instilled perhaps, a greater interest in rugby than academic study, but subsequently graduated from London University in Geography. After a year at Kings College, Andy taught geography and geology at City of London School for three years where rugby and cricket again came to the forefront.

In 1976 joined the then Sports Council working on facility planning before moving initially to the South East Region and subsequently to London Region. Became the Regional Director for Sport England (London) in 1989 and was also the service team Leader for Rugby Union until 2003.
In the period 1999/2000 undertook the Campaign for Leadership Runge Programme at and from 2000 to 2002 was a Team Adviser on that Programme and a mentor for the University of North London through the National Mentoring Consortium for Afro Caribbean and Asian students
Established, with London Arts and other pan London cultural bodies “Cultural Partners for London” in 1999 in the absence of any Regional Cultural Consortium.

In 2003 he joined Business In Sport and Leisure which initially included a P/T secondment to the 2012 Bid Team until 2005, and is now the Executive Director.

He is a member of the National culture Forum, Chairman of London Council for Sport and Recreation, a member of the Council of London Playing Fields Foundation and Chair of his local sports council in Richmond. Present participant interests are cycling, cricket, painting and sub aqua diving and now watching rugby.
