School Transport 2009
27 Jan 2009
Held at Hotel Russell, London

The national conference for all those working in school transport to explore emerging trends and issues, the latest policy and guidance and hear innovative best practice. Through the Local Transport Bill, Local Authorities will receive enhanced powers to deliver transport services so that they reflect better the needs of the local area. This conference showed how empowered Local Authorities can incorporate school travel planning into wider plans which tackle the sustainability and congestion issues of local areas. The event also examined the viability of recommendations of the Yellow Bus Commission to roll out a nationwide scheme. Delegates explored how school travel planners can support the delivery of the 14-19, post-16 and positive activities targets as well as meet Local Area Agreement priorities. The event also provided best practice on special educational needs transport, working with operators, raising bus driver skills, and walking and cycling plans.
