Dr Sabharwal is a sociologist whose research engages with ethnicity, identity and social history. In 1993, she founded the Department of Sociology at India’s renowned arts college, the Lady Shri Ram College for Women. During her 18 years there she successfully transformed the department into one of the best in the country. She has a PhD from the University of Delhi.
