Speaker Biography

Professor David Boughey

David is currently Director of Student Engagement at the University of Exeter Business School. He was previously Associate Dean (Education), and led on programmes and students in Exeter’s successful EQUIS accreditation in 2013.

David is the lead developer in Exeter’s collaboration with ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in creating the MOOC “Discovering Business in Society” that first ran on Futurelearn in 2014. This pioneering venture enabled participants to sit a final examination at centres around the world, and if successful gain exemption from an ACCA foundation paper.

Face to face teaching remains important in David’s work, and he continues to dabble in business history, teaching a highly regarded final year undergraduate elective called International Business History. The module requires students to undertake original research, and was recognized by Exeter’s Students’ Guild as winner of the 2014 Research Uncovered competition. He’s now also a winner in the 2015 competition for work on philanthropy and employment for wounded soldiers after WWI. The centrality of teaching in David’s work is formalized in his chairing of Exeter’s HEA-accredited ASPIRE fellowship scheme. David’s also a panel member of the QAA’s current reviews of the undergraduate and postgraduate subject benchmark statements.
