Karen Middleton

Having worked in Higher Education for the past 12 years, Karen’s current role is Marketing Tutor at the University of Portsmouth. She co-ordinates the new final year ‘Marketing Consultancy Project’ unit, which she is developing in line with a collaborative pedagogical research project which considers the nature and value of developing real-life employability skills with undergraduates, and the outcomes for the varied stakeholders.

Karen’s experience as a Marketing Practitioner working with small businesses assists with her recognition of the need to develop graduates’ skills in line with the requirements of SMEs. She is also informed by her work on the Chartered Institute of Marketing Multi-Award Pathway, which she leads in the Business School; enabling undergraduates to gain professional qualifications alongside their degrees.

Additionally, Karen is developing other research interests, specifically through her Master’s studies, which focus on national cultural differences in advertising creative strategy and responses, with a focus on Brazil.
