Hedley Swain was appointed Director of Museums and Renaissance at Arts Council England in the summer of 2011.

Past posts include Director of Programmes, and Head of Museum Policy at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and Head of Early London History and Collections at the Museum of London.

He has published and lectured widely on museum matters and is an Honorary Lecturer at University College London. His
early career was as an archaeologist.
