Chris McAteer

Craig is the Managing Director of Rochdale Boroughwide Cultural Trust, and was responsible for the transfer into Trust status from Rochdale MBC. The trust is responsible for all cultural services, Museum’s, Arts and Heritage Services, Civic Centres and Promotions, Leisure Centres, Sports and Arts Development, Golf Courses, Water Activities Centre, Local Studies, Tourism and Active Communities programme.

Craig has extensive experience in leisure management having had many years experience at a senior level in local government for a number of Local Authorities and for the last ten years in the ‘not-for-profit’ sector with all companies trading as social enterprises.

In 2007 Craig was appointed Chair of sporta (Sports and Recreation Trust Association), Sporta has 114 members and all members trade as social enterprises. Sporta has experienced significant growth in recent years as a strategic partner with Local Authorities. Members have a combined turnover of £700m operate over 900 leisure facilities and have 210million customer user visits.

Craig is also a member of the National Cultural Forum, a panel advisor to the Local Government Association, and an executive member of CLOA. In addition he represents his trust on a number of groups within Rochdale MBC, such as the Local Public Services Board and Children’s Trust.
