Professor Sharon Collard

Sharon Collard joined the Open University in May 2014 as Professor of Personal Finance Capability in the newly established True Potential Centre for the Public Understanding of Finance (PUFin). Made possible by the financial support of True Potential LLP, PUFin’s remit is to improve the public’s understanding of personal finance, providing individuals across the world with the tools to make sound financial decisions.

A big element of this is the production of three Personal Finance MOOCs made available to the public via the FutureLearn platform. The first MOOC, an eight-week course on Managing My Money, launched on 12 May 2014. The second MOOC will focus on Managing My Investments and the third on Consumer Rights and Responsibilities.

Sharon previously worked for 16 years at the University of Bristol’s Personal Finance Research Centre conducting policy-focused social research on personal finance issues for funders including the financial services industry, government departments, and charitable foundations.
