Dr Nick Bishop

Dr Nick Bishop is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist in Bristol.

Nick is a National Professional Advisor at the Care Quality Commission and a consultant interventional radiologist in Bristol. He was the first Medical Director of Brighton Healthcare NHS Trust. He helped establish the Brighton & Sussex Medical School and the cardiac surgery service in Brighton. After six years as MD he moved to United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust as Medical Director, coinciding with the start of the Bristol Inquiry into Children’s heart surgery.

In 2003 Nick was appointed Assistant Medical Director to the Commission for Health Improvement, which became Senior Medical Advisor to Healthcare Commission in 2004 and Care Quality Commission in 2009.

Nick was on the Board of the British Association of Medical Managers for many years and was its Chairman from 2005-2007 His work in CQC includes assessment of Outliers and clinical advice on strategic issues that encourage improvement.

Nick is a Senior Visiting Fellow of the Centre for Health Enterprise at City University and Cass Business School, London. He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in May 2011.
