Professor Michael Worton

Professor Michael Worton
Professor Michael Worton is Vice-Provost and Fielden Professor of French Language and Literature at University College London (UCL) where he is responsible for Teaching and Learning, Quality Assurance, Academic Infrastructure, Widening Participation and Museums and Collections.

He was Chair of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)/Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Expert Group on Research Metrics, and is a member of the Humanities in the European Research Area/European Science Foundation Steering Committee, Building a European Index for the Humanities.

Professor Worton is also a member of the Universities UK/Standing Conference of Principals/HEFCE Measuring and Recording Student Achievement Steering Group, and on the Advisory Board of Clore Leadership Foundation.

He is also a Director and Trustee of the Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (CARA).

His research focuses on 20th and 21st century literature and on aspects of critical theory, feminism, gender politics, and painting and photography. He has published nine books and more than 60 articles and chapters in books.
